Margaret Miner is the intrepid owner and founder of Rags Consignments with locations in Boulder, Highlands and now Cherry Creek, as well as Boulder’s ten20 nail and waxing spa. She is an entrepreneur, business innovator, mover, shaker and mother of three. Her approach to high-end resale has made Rags Consignments one of the top consignment stores in the area, as well as the country.
Favorite item in the store right this moment?
Boulder store… Escada dress! Long sleeve, cream with gold buttons, 8″ pleat at hem… looks like something Audrey Hepburn would have worn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s… still a beautiful, sophisticated look! Highlands – Vince gray cashmere. Cherry Creek – Stella McCartney trench.
Favorite designer you frequently carry?
Elizabeth and James clothing. They do traditional looks in a nontraditional way… the fabrics and cuts are gorgeous. My favorite bags are often Cole Haan. They’re not the most expensive, but they’re always made well, functional, with beautiful leather, and they’re made for women with real lives.
Your 5 dream dinner party guests?
Brian Williams, Tina Fey, Richard Branson, Frank Bruni, and Annie Lamott.
Favorite place to dine in Denver? In Boulder?
Lola’s in LoHi, Tangerine for breakfast, The Hungry Toad for beer and burger.
Favorite city in the world? Favorite city in Colorado? Why?
In the world?… Paris (big city). Of course. Boulder, our own little paradise. There used to be a marketing campaign for Colorado that said, ‘Tis a privilege to live in Colorado.
The three beauty products you’d take to a desert island?
Cover stick. Eyeliner. Sunscreen (lots of it!) But what about my toothbrush?
Fashion trend you love? Fashion trend to leave?
Jeans and boots and … anything! Leave super high heels that no one can really walk in. Beauty is feeling good about how you move around in the world!
Why did you open your store?
Because I saw that no one was selling what I wanted to buy… good, current styles and brands. We opened the second Rags in The Highlands because the purchase of another consignment shop presented itself… and its a really cool space! Our recent entree into Cherry Creek North was because we wanted to take it up a notch or two or three and consign and sell higher end designer labels. We finally found a space with great visibility and parking! I’m really proud of how the store came together, it’s sleek and warm and fun, and…I have a new husband who is a contractor and big fan of the businesses who made it all possible! Truly.
Where do you see your store in five years?
More stores, in other cities! And for me personally, I want to do more design work… now that I’ve tricked out the stores and refreshed ten20, I’d love to do groovy motels and vacation homes!
Finish the sentence: When someone is shopping with us, the most important thing for them to know is…
Our greatest asset is YOU. Thank you.
