For the Gal Well-Traveled

Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North

Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon NorthFour Seasons Scottsdale at Troon NorthIf you want the ultimate in luxury, head straight to Four Seasons, Louis Vuitton luggage in tow. This quintessential Sonoran Desert gem is set against the big Arizona sky and is as stunning as it is serene. If you have the means, spring for one of the resort’s Casitas. These expansive mini-mansions feature a private outdoor shower and plunge pool, multiple bedrooms, a full-size kitchen, spa-like bathrooms, a living and dining room and an incredible patio complete with an outdoor fireplace and unmatched views of the desert and surrounding foothills. In true Four Seasons fashion, you’ll also find the resort’s dining options to be world-class, with everything from modern Mexican at Crescent Moon to creative steak and seafood pairings at Talavera, the property’s signature restaurant featuring award-winning, locally sourced dishes, jaw-dropping views and the best patio dining in the Valley. As to be expected, the spa won’t disappoint, either. Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon NorthThe 12,000 square foot facility offers Southwest-inspired treatments such as the 80-minute Sedona Earth Clay Body Mask and our favorite, the 110-minute Ayurvedic rebalancing ritual which combines herbal oils, scalp massage and an Indian herbal body mask and wrap that will send you into another universe, if only for a while. Even if your Arizona adventure has you bunking in other quarters, you and your gal pals can still enjoy a bit of Four Seasons flavor by indulging in the resort’s summer special, the “Girl’s Day Out.” The package includes poolside lunch at Saguro Blossom and all-day access to the grand pool complex (think complimentary cabanas, misters, fruit kebabs and smoothies). Plus, you’ll get to sample a class at the fitness center, and indulge in a 25-minute express spa treatment, ranging from foot massage to body polish. Like what you see? Turn your “Girl’s Day Out” into the ultimate “Girl’s Night Out” by adding on a guest room, with rates starting at $129 throughout the summer. The Arizona Biltmore

The Arizona BiltmoreFrom the moment you step inside The Arizona Biltmore you know you’re somewhere special. Built in 1929 as Phoenix’s first resort, the Biltmore exudes classic Hollywood glamour and vintage charm at every turn. Set on a 39-acre oasis, the property boasts eight swimming pools, seven tennis courts, a full-service spa and dining options galore. For the ladies who love the links, the adjacent Biltmore Country Club will have you swinging in style, while the preppy princess will swoon over Pink Saguaro, the on-property Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store. But it’s the Biltmore’s colorful history that really makes it shine. Built by brothers Albert, Charles and Warren McArthur under the direction of Frank Lloyd Wright, The Arizona Biltmore takes you back in time with nods to Wright’s unmistakable architectural style throughout. In fact, it’s the only existing hotel in the world with a The Arizona BiltmoreWright-influenced design. Over the years, The Arizona Biltmore has played host to countless celebrities, presidents and dignitaries and even stakes claim to being Marilyn Monroe’s favorite swimming pool. Today, the Biltmore’s pool remains equally fabulous with well-appointed private bungalows and flawless service. Our only complaint? The ill-conceived placement of the couples massage cabana directly next to the resort’s kiddie pool and waterslide. Seriously? Yet all considered, the fireside cocktail hour under the breezy desert palms more than made up for our “Marco Polo” infused spa treatment. For the Spa Snob

Spa Avania at Hyatt Gainey Ranch

Spa AvaniaSpa AvaniaAt Spa Avania, timing is everything. This Scottsdale retreat believes strongly in the body’s fundamental daily journey towards balance. Namely, awakening in the morning, rejuvenating midday, and unwinding in the evening. As such, every little detail at the spa changes depending on the time of day. From the flavor of the water and tea, to the music being played, to the scent of your essential oil, Spa Avania switches it up three times daily in an effort to help you find your inner zen. And while we were skeptical at first, we quickly became believers. The perfectly appointed getaway is truly second to none, offering luxe accommodations like garden treatment rooms with their own private entrance; a co-ed French-Celtic mineral pool and lotus pond; trellis covered outdoor relaxation areas; a yoga room and hot and cold plunge pools. What’s more, the spa’s signature Avania massage is quite possibly the best we’ve ever had. Ever.
