Syd Sexton Ritz Carlton Denver Magazine

As the woman behind the amazing and incredible events at Ritz Carlton’s two Colorado properties, Syd Sexton knows the ins and outs of fabulous! Here, the chic food and beverage maven shares her secrets for a life well-lived.

  1. The Ritz-Carlton Denver and The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch restaurants, ELWAY’S Downtown and Spago. You really do get the best of both worlds with a perfect city or mountain getaway paired with incomparable Food (I am definitely a FOODIE and it takes a lot to impress me). I am so proud of these two amazing restaurants.
  2. Tiffany at Posh the Salon can do magic with curly hair (shhh, don’t tell anyone that I have curly hair). It’s not only Tiffany that I love about this place. From the owners to the staff to the comfy over-stuffed couches…visiting Posh in Bonnie Brae is like taking a vacation day.
  3. Rum Cakes by Kelli are heaven on earth!!
  4. My dear Friends Cindy and Alex Ollig own the Perfect Petal and Posh Denver (What can I say, I am all about “Posh”). Cindy has the best eye for gifts.
  5. Marathons: I started with a mile 15 years ago and just kept at it. One day my dear friend told me that I should train for a full marathon. She was there to support me for the first one in Boulder and it’s a good thing since I was cursing her by mile 20. Since then I have completed 8 full and about 20 marathons. I still have one or two full marathons in me…definitely NYC!
  6. Chelsea in Boulder — this is my favorite boutique, it has such a unique and fabulous style. Jessica at the shop has such a great eye for style and you know you won’t see yourself coming and going but more like coming back again and again.
  7. Lululemon workout clothes — running clothes that not only feel great, but look amazing; we even sell them at The Ritz-Carlton, Denver shop, Reflections 1881. And I can’t live without my Newton Running Shoes from The Newton Running Lab in Boulder.
  8. My mom! I realize that everyone thanks their mom, but very few have a mom like mine. She was one very few women in Texas in the 60s to attend law school and pass the bar and is still a practicing attorney. She has been recognized many times over for her achievements in family law and for her continuing education classes on diversity in the work place. With a work ethic like my mom’s how could I be anything less than what I am.
  9. Sugarlicious. Jill Landman Alfond’s new candy store in Cherry Creek North. You have got to get in there!
  10. GCB – TV show since I spent the first 26 years of my life in Houston, TX and this show takes me right back to big hair and interesting priorities for women. It is hilarious!
  11. Motown — I obnoxiously sing The Temptations and The Supremes out loud as I am running down the Cherry Creek Reservoir path.
  12. I can’t live without Tim and Alex, my 22 year old son and 18 year old daughter. I have always said that every year in their lives was my favorite (except 16) and it does keep getting better. They are amazing. Tim is my running partner and Alex is my shopping partner.
  13. I describe myself and personal style as Shabby Chic. I love vintage pieces and that comfortable, “lived in” look.
