Meet the Editor: Betsy Marr

For the next month, we will be taking you behind the scenes of Reign Magazine. From never-before-seen photos to interviews with the people who made our premiere issue ‘Reign.’ We begin this week with our Reign Maker, featuring Editor-in-Chief Betsy Marr. Here, she dishes on her favorite designers, biggest inspirations and more.

Meet the Editor: Betsy Martin

  1. Trina, Tory & Kate – Turk, Burch & Spade, that is. My “ladies” keep my wardrobe current with a classic sense of whimsy. I absolutely adore these three designers and feel they epitomize my personal style. From fabulous cocktail dresses to cheeky little frocks that give a nod to the swinging ’60s (my era of choice) all the way to chic home accessories, the “ladies” keep it stylish…and fun.
  2. Anything Monogrammed – I am obsessed with monograms. They take the most ordinary things and make them so personal and stylish. I love the jewelry at Swell Caroline, the gifts at Sugarlicious and the home accents at MK Style for all things monogrammed.
  3. Madewell – A favorite for years, and now it is (finally) coming to Colorado with a new store at Park Meadows. Madewell does preppy so well and always has great basics that last forever and never disappoint.
  4. C. Wonder – The coolest stores that originated in New York and are making their way to the west slowly but surely. For now, we can shop online for adorable and affordable clothing, accessories, gifts and home décor.
  5. Manolo Blahnik – Every girl deserves a pair of Blahniks. They are like art for the feet. I am particularly fond of the D’Orsay styles that he does so well. My favorites are a fatigue print pair I bought years ago as well as a leopard print pump that I received as a gift from one of my best girlfriends.
  6. WWJD – AKA, “What Would Jackie Do?” This has become a favorite book (great style and life advice) as well as a mantra. Running a magazine is tough work and requires constant grace under fire. I oftentimes have to breathe and say “what would Jackie do?” when what I really want to do is lose my temper and shout a few choice words. I don’t always succeed in being ladylike and poised, but I certainly try. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was faced with constant struggles, often very publicly. She is my ultimate role model and if I can channel even a tiny bit of her I feel that I am ahead of the game.
  7. Handwritten Notes – In the age of emails, texts and tweets, the handwritten note has become an endangered species. I’m a stickler for proper thank you notes and believe that a simple card or quick thought scribbled to a friend can make all the difference in the world. I love The Paper Lady, Fleur de Lis and Swoozies for fabulous stationery that makes an impression.
  8. Veuve Clicquot – There is something so special about a glass of Veuve (preferably in a vintage-style saucer). The ultimate way to celebrate everything or nothing at all.
  9. Lilly – Lilly Pulitzer is the Queen of Pink and Green and one of my earliest and strongest inspirations. Lilly defined Palm Beach chic back in the 1960s and her eponymous fashion line continues to serve as the uniform of the stylish girlie girl. I love all things Lilly – from shift dresses to sandals, stationery to home fabrics. Life is always better in pink and green!
  10. Spray Tans, Latisse & Shellac…Oh My! – My beauty trifecta. A few years ago I gave up “real” tanning but let’s face it, everyone looks better with a glow. The Mystic HD tans at Palms Tanning Resort are the best (even color that’s never orange). Latisse is the best invention since Spanx and gives you those lush, full lashes every girl wants without tubes upon tubes of mascara. Shellac manis keep my hands looking polished without a single chip for two weeks.
  11. Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch – The BEST hotel in the entire world, the location of my first official date with my fiancé, Kevin and the venue for our wedding reception this October. The Ritz holds incredibly special meaning for us and is pure magic. If you haven’t been, go. Now.
  12. Spa at Four Seasons Denver – My favorite place to unwind, The Spa at Four Seasons Denver is beyond fabulous. Every treatment is flawless, the service is impeccable, the facility is stunning and the rooftop pool isn’t too shabby either.
