Julie Dunn

Reporter turned publicist Julie Dunn has built her career on knowing and telling great stories. As the founder of lifestyle and hospitality PR firm Dunn Communications, she spends her days partaking in the active Colorado lifestyle and all that it entails. Here, a few of the things that Julie cannot live without…

1. Yellow: My bedroom when I was a little girl was bright yellow with this gorgeous four-poster bed with a white eyelet canopy. I’ve been obsessed ever since. I constantly buy things just because they are yellow – I even painted the trim of our Denver Square a deep sunflower yellow.

2. My kids: I’m fairly girly, so I never thought I’d have two boys (Ramsey is 7 and Beckett is 3), but I love absolutely everything about them! Our world is really loud and revolves around bugs and fish.

3. Northern Michigan: My family cottage on Higgins Lake in Northern Michigan is my favorite place in the world. I grew up spending summers there swimming, water skiing and sailing all day and having bonfires every night. I love having my kids grow up with the same experiences, there is nothing better than a lazy lake day.

4. Denver B-Cycle: I live in Denver’s Alamo Placito neighborhood and ride Denver B-Cycles everywhere, from client meetings to Rockies games. I always have a pair of flip flops in my huge purse so that I can jump on a bike.

5. Stand-Up Paddleboarding: My newest passion. Being alone out on a calm lake really centers me.

6. JF Options Jewelers: My husband bought my engagement ring at Denver’s JF Options 10 years ago and we have been loyal customers ever since, the owners Becky & Barry Baxman have become friends. They have a great selection of unique pieces – I always love seeing one of their dark blue boxes!!

7. Lululemon: I try to do yoga and Pilates at least twice a week, but I admit to wearing Lululemon every single day.

8. Denver Union Station: The re-opening of this Denver landmark was such an exciting project to be a part of. Each of the different spaces is so well executed and has its own personality. The Great Hall is the perfect place for everything from a work meeting to cocktails with girlfriends.

9. Decade Gifts: When I moved to Denver 13 years ago, Decade is one of the first stores on South Broadway that I discovered. It is still my go-to shop for gifts.

10. Skiing: Growing up my family came out skiing in Colorado for spring break every year, it’s a huge part of why I moved here. Copper, Steamboat and Beaver Creek are my favorite mountains to ski and my client The Westin Riverfront is by far my favorite mountain resort, we love spending apres ski there relaxing by the huge fireplaces, playing board games and listening to the live music.

11. Coca Cola – My biggest vice is that I start each day with a cold Coke. I know it’s terrible for you, but I’m not giving it up.

12. Pandora – I never listened to Pandora before my husband opened the Denver sales office two years ago, but now I am obsessed. I always have music on. My favorite stations range from the Gambler Classic Country to Broadway Showtunes to Hip Hop BBQ. Juice Box Heroes has great kids music!

13. The New York Times – I moved to New York City right out of college and spent three years in The New York Times reporter training program, which was a life changing experience. Just picking up the newspaper makes me smile.
