Jessica Bachus

Jessica Bachus is a lot of things – mom, wife, boss, friend, and leader. But one of her most significant roles is that of Founder and Executive Director of Dolls for Daughters. What began in 2007 as a way to honor her angel Kenzi, is now one of Colorado’s fastest growing nonprofits, having served more than 40,000 underprivileged children through an annual Toy Shop and various programs throughout the year. Here, Jessica shares the ingredients that help her juggle her very full life in style.

1. My family is the most important thing in my life. I would not be the person I am today without their love and support. My husband, Kyle, and I have been together for 15 years and we have four children, three that walk and one that soars. Bailey (10), Kam (6) and Karson (5) our angel Kenzi (7)

2. I love Sanitas Skincare products for my face; it is the only line I use. One of my favorite products is their Vita Rich Serum but I use everything in their line and have for 6 years.

3. My Hobo wallet in rosewood: It fits all of my must-haves so well and even doubles as a cute clutch.

4. Orangetheory Fitness Lowry – I have been a member for a year and it is my go to for a workout. It is the one hour a day that is for me. The trainers, staff and other members make this a wonderful place to go. It is like a family.

5. Newport Beach – This is a place our family loves to visit in the summer. We ride our bikes on the boardwalk, Kyle and my two older kids surf and we all enjoy our time away from the hustle and bustle of our every day lives. We get quality time as a family.

6. Dolls for Daughters and Kenzi’s Kidz – The nonprofit I started in memory of my daughter Kenzi. I was not sure how I was going to move on after my loss and I had the strength to create something wonderful in her memory. We celebrated our 5th birthday as a nonprofit in April and will host our 5th Annual Dolls for Daughters and Toys for Boys Toy Shop this December. I feel blessed to be able to do what I love each day in memory of my daughter and make a difference in the lives of children in our community.

7. My Mom, Leanne. She is my best friend and the person in my life who has always been there for me no matter what. As a single mother she always made sacrifices for my brother and me. If I can be half the Mom to my children she has been to me then I will be happy.

8. My Kenzi Molly Bear. This bear was made in Kenzi’s memory and weighs her exact weight when she was born. My bear was made by a Mother who has lost a child as well. I will always treasure my Molly Bear.

9. My Nikon D5000 Camera. This was a Mother’s Day gift in 2010. I take hundreds of pictures on every family trip and thousands over a year. I make Shutterfly books for each vacation and each of my children.

10. Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Pink Diamond has been my standard go to gloss for years. I am not a fan of lipstick or bright colors so I stick with pink diamond.

11. College Football – I grew up watching college football in Wyoming and loved it. Since I met my husband I have been a Florida Gator fan. We try to get back to Gainesville for at least one game a year and watch as many as we can at the Rocky Mountain Gator Club at Jackson’s downtown.

12. Jeans – Because of my job, I am often in jeans. Hudson Jeans to be exact. I am able to dress them up or down depending on what my day holds. A meeting with a donor or sponsor or shopping with one of our Kenzi’s Kidz families or hauling toys. Hudson Jeans last and are comfortable to wear all day.

13. Learning…I love to learn. I have a Masters in Information and Learning Technologies that I planned to use to be a teacher librarian but my life took a difference path. I am currently enrolled online at the University of Florida in their Nonprofit Management and Leadership Masters Certificate program.
