Passion for Fashion
While NYC may be celebrating Fashion Week in big apple style, Denver is upping its own catwalk ante with two stellar shows this weekend. Break out your best step-and-repeat smiles, and get ready for your red carpet close ups, gals.
Always a “haute” to trot event, the 8th Annual Volunteers of America Fashion Show is right around the corner. Denver’s glitterati will be out in full force for this year’s show, dubbed “The Sweet Life” and being held at Larimer Square’s Suite 200. Expect to see models donning fashions from local faves Mariel, Moda and Goldyn as guests nibble on treats from Happy Cakes and Sugarlicious (soon to open in Cherry Creek North). Voli Vodka drinks, desserts and party favors will be plentiful, as will people watching. General and catwalk seating are available, and EDGE at Four Seasons is offering a complimentary “Sweet Life” dessert for fashionistas making pre (or post) event dinner reservations. Plus, revelers can purchase a $10 candy bar (compliments of Sugarlicious) that contains a “golden ticket” redeemable for fab prizes like Southwest Airlines flights and concert tickets from AEG. The Sweet Life Fashion Show, Saturday, September 17th, 7 to 10 in the evening, Suite 200, 1427 Larimer in Denver, www.voacolorado.org.
While few fashion designers suffer from a lack of creativity, the 7th Annual Pret-a-Porter Fashion Show is taking “unexpected materials” to new heights. Produced by the International Interior Design Association, the show pairs local interior designers and students with product manufacturers to create couture ensembles using the likes of veneer, linoleum, textiles, carpets and more. The teams will all be utilizing Pantone’s “it” color of the year – Honeysuckle – and will be judged on creativity, wearability, model presence and more. Local celebrities will be judging, and expect to see bold faced names like restaurateur Kevin Taylor on the panel. A VIP reception begins at 6:30, doors open at 7, and the show begins at 8. Pret-a-Porter Product Runway Fashion Show, Friday, September 16th, tickets on sale at www.iidarmc.org.
