My Old Kentucky Home
The Kentucky Derby is a tradition to behold. From the jockeys to the juelps, the millinery to the magnificent horses that so gracefully race their hearts out, we are inspired by its storied past and stunning present (see Run for the Roses in Reign’s Spring Issue). This styled shoot, brimming with all things southern and nods to the Derby, is one with which we’re smitten. From pecan pies to mint juleps and a gorgeous horse donning flowers, we’re celebrating Derby day in the most stylish of ways.
From the designer, Sarah Johns of Pink Paisley Events…
“Derby hats need their own holiday! With our love of mint juleps, horses, beautiful blooms and southern inspired baked goods, the Kentucky Derby is one event that we don’t miss. This collaboration was inspired by all that is Derby. Langilicious Fine Pastries tapped into the southern side of desserts to inspire the display. The cake is a mint and lemon cake with a lemon curd filling. The mini cupcakes are mint julep cupcakes. The horse and bow cake pops were inspired by my own family’s horses. Pink Paisley Events designed the floral arrangement. The recipe: football mums, peach roses, spray roses, apple tree branches to coincide with the basket of apples, orchids, ranunculus, magnolia leaves, feather eucalyptus, queen annes lace, rhododendron and amaranths.”
