Made in the Shade
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year in Colorado, it was only natural for world travelers and new parents Heather Leslie and Brian Winterling to connect the dots to Shady Baby, their stylin’ line of bendy umbrellas that effortlessly clamp onto your stroller. While in countries like Thailand and Vietnam, Heather and Brian adopted the local custom of walking with a parasol to help block the relentless summer sun. Then in Europe, they noticed that most of the children’s buggies were parasol-equipped as well. The pair wondered what the strollers were wearing back home in the USA. When they returned to find the city running rampant with blankets draped over small built in shades, they knew they were on to something. With that, Shady Baby was born, soon to be followed by the couple’s first daughter, Amelia. Nowadays, the Denver-based company offers oodles of super cute fabrics to choose from, all of which provide UV 50+ sun protection. Plus, Shady Baby’s clamps fit on so much more than strollers. Think joggers, portable cribs and lawn chairs, and at $35 a pop, you can afford to have one for each. Shady Baby, available in Denver at Real Baby, 3616 West 32nd Avenue, 303.477.2229 or online at www.shadybaby.com.
