How to Host an Impromptu Oscar Party

How to Throw an Oscar Party

1. Décor: Picking a few bold colors and sticking with them will make your party décor cohesive and seamless. Black and gold is the perfect color palette for our Oscar fete, and this will allow for the red carpet to be the center of attention like the real deal. Think big prints and shiny all over.

2. Libations: A signature cocktail that goes along with the theme of your oh-so fabulous bash is sure to always be a crowd pleaser, and of course, the staple beverage for all parties that spell luxury- is champagne. This time, we will be celebrating the nominated film for Best Picture, Birdman, with a signature namesake cocktail. This drink is everything that makes the birds sing with aromas if Douglas Fir trees, elderflowers, and honey. Cook in and Dine Out’s recipe has just what the birdman ordered.

1 ½ oz. CapRock Colorado organic gin

¾ oz. Clear Creek Eau de Vie of Douglas Fir

¼ oz. St. Germain

½ oz. Honey syrup

2 Dashes grapefruit bitters

Rosemary garnish

Be sure to shake all of the ingredients together well, top it off with a bit of rosemary, and enjoy!

3. Red Carpet Photo Booth: You can’t ask your guests to dress to the nines and roll out the red carpet without capturing the every moment. Supply your pals with Oscar related props to lighten up the mood.

4. Themed Treats: The fun part is preparing sweets and snacks that add to the premise of the party. In this case, Oscar shaped cookies topped off with golden icing, macaroons of different colors displayed on fancy trays, and popcorn served at show time is a great start.

5. Music: Create a playlist consisting of soundtracks from you and your guest’s most beloved movies to play during the pre-show.

6. Eats: A refined event like The Academy Awards calls for tasteful finger foods and small bites- after all, no one likes to feel full in their red carpet attire.

7. Attire: A dress code is a must when it comes to a themed soiree. It’s a great way to get your stylish guests jazzed up about the party before it even takes place. Our favorite part about the Oscars is crushing on those incredible ensembles that grace the red carpet before the award ceremony- so encourage your guests to don their most elegant red carpet attire.

This year’s Best Actor nominee for American Sniper, Bradley Cooper, and Best Actress nominee for Wild, Reese Witherspoon are no strangers to the Academy Awards. Both are as talented as they are beautiful while walking the red carpet at past awards.

8. Personal Ballots: Entertainment of the ultimate point of a party. So why not come up with a game to add a little excitement. Print out ballots for each of your guests, and have them cast their votes. Before each category during the award show, read your party’s winning pick aloud to see if you and your guests agree with the Academy.
