Family Values

For one Cherry Hills Village family, a love for entertaining and vibrant colors translated into a full home renovation brimming with pattern play, open spaces, bright hues and unexpected details.

Sedgwick Powder RmWhen Jenna and John purchased their mid-century traditional in Cherry Hills Village, they knew that a top to bottom renovation was paramount. While they loved the home’s neighborhood, lot and layout, the interiors did not lend themselves to the stylish, playful and functional space they had imagined for their family of five. Immediately, they enlisted the help of friend and lauded designer Katie Agron of Wolfe Design House. Together, they envisioned, designed and built a home that not only fit the family’s lifestyle, but also their tastes.

“John and Jenna were dream clients. They were very trusting and decisive. From the first meeting, I knew they wanted a family-friendly home with lots of color and space to entertain. That dictated every design selection.”

Reign: Best advice for designing a home that’s stylish but also family friendly?
WDH: Use family friendly fabrics. Outdoor textiles these days provide great stain resistance and are more stylish and softer to the touch than ever before.

Reign: Tips for incorporating color and pattern without overdoing it?
WDH: A good way to pull in color is with contrast piping or throw pillows. Neither is overwhelming and you won’t get tired of them.

Reign: Top 5 Favorite Interior Design Books?
WDH: Interior Portraits by Victoria Hagan, The Welcoming House by Jane Schwab, Art of the House by Bobby McAlpine

Reign: We love the accessories in Jenna and John’s home. What s your favorite accent piece in the home and where can readers purchase?
WDH: The side tables from Oomph! Fun, whimsical and 16 great colors to choose from. At MK Style in Denver.

Reign: Trend you are loving right now?
WDH: I have always preferred gold and brass tones. Now that they are trendy, I’m finally on trend!

Reign: Trend to avoid?
WDH: We are overdoing large lanterns. I go in houses and feel like I am dodging them. We are going to kill a good thing!
