Claws for a Cause
Most don’t associate landlocked Colorado with live lobster sales and New England style soirées. But last month, Denverites took over the historic downtown Clock Tower for an evening of charitable revelry and…lobster. Now in its 35th year, Claws for a Cause is a live lobster sale and fundraiser for Angel Eyes, a nonprofit that provides bereavement support to families experiencing sudden, unexpected infant loss such as SIDS and SUDC. Partygoers sipped on wine and noshed on a decadent nautical-themed candy buffet from Sugarlicious as well as lobster and filet hors d’oeuvres made by Footers Catering and flown in from James Hook & Co, the event’s supplier in Boston. For every lobster order placed, a ticket was given for a chance to win over-the-top swag from the likes of Neiman Marcus, HW Home and Little Me’s.
As one of Colorado’s longest standing fundraisers, Claws for a Cause is a celebrated, time-honored tradition for several hundred local families, and offers an enjoyable, easy and affordable way to give back while celebrating life at the same time. Festivities range from intimate dinners to large parties held on private estates. Over the years, the organization has sold more than 100,000 live lobsters, raising nearly a million dollars in net revenue.
In addition to the popular live lobsters the group also offers frozen lobster tails, filet mignon steaks and 1/3 lb burgers from Anderson Boneless Beef. Donors pre-order their choices, and pick up their feasts at a variety of sites across Colorado on June 16, 2012. Supporters can order online via the Claws for a Cause website at http://www.clawsforacause.org.
