Chancy and Zach Say I Do

Sometimes, we find love when we least expect it. For Chancy and Zach, what began as casual conversation at a Kentucky Derby soiree soon turned into a courtship filled with plenty of adventure. Fast forward three years, and Zach was ready to take the relationship to the next level – both literally and figuratively. Because the couple spends nearly every chance they get basking in the great Colorado outdoors, Zach was intent on proposing amidst a mountain hike. The caveat? Our state had been blanketed by weeks of torrential rain and flooding. Yet Zach pressed on insistent upon a fall trip to the high country and a long, scenic hike. Worried about the rain, Chancy resisted. Ultimately, they settled on a leisurely walk around Beaver Creek’s ski trails, so when Zach brought along a large backpack for the short outing, Chancy teased her beau incessantly, unaware of its contents. As Chancy and Boscoe, the couple’s chocolate lab, led the way up the steep hill, Zach asked them to stop. Thinking that he had come to his senses and wanted to head back, Chancy turned around. Instead, she found Zach on one knee. In the very backpack she had teased him for carrying, he had hidden champagne, a camera, tripod and a sign for Boscoe to “hold” saying “she said yes.”

The following fall, Chancy and Zach said “I do” in a stunning Aspen meadow at T Lazy 7 Ranch. Because both the mountains and their faith are of the utmost importance to Chancy and Zach, they wanted to create the feeling of an outdoor church. With the help of Bluebird Productions’ Virginia Edelson, they did exactly that by building an open-air chapel using pews and a cross within the natural landscape. A black tie reception at the historic Hotel Jerome followed, where guests enjoyed an authentic speakeasy style bar and a palette of perfectly fall colors and decadent fare. All eyes were on Chancy and Zach as they took to the dance floor to Frank Sinatra’s Our Love is Here to Stay – the perfect sentiment for the newlyweds, whose last name is, in fact, Love. After their Aspen adventures, Chancy and Zach honeymooned in Bora Bora and Australia before returning to their beloved Colorado.
