A Holiday Wedding in Vail

They say that it takes one to know one. In this case, it took one to marry one.   Ashley and Pete are real life rocket scientists. And while an affinity for military aviation brought the two together, it was their affection for one another that had them moving across the country together and eventually tying the knot amongst the picturesque mountains of Vail, Colorado.  Having lived in three out of the four US time zones during their childhood and early careers, it was only natural for the pair, who reside in Connecticut, to host a destination wedding.

Their December 10th nuptials were nothing short of spectacular, and were fraught with special details. With just forty guests, the intimate event began at sunset in the Arrabelle at Vail Square’s Great Room, where floor to ceiling windows framed the snow capped backdrop that would set the stage for Ashley and Pete’s vows. A crackling fireplace and red rose petals served as the altar. Guests were surprised as the couple cleverly incorporated Shel Silverston’s “Ations” poem into their readings, while adding a personal element to the beloved children’s classic. Post ceremony, the special book graced the guest book table, alongside a black snowboard that loved ones signed in silver ink. Throughout the reception at the Arrabelle’s Centre V Restaurant black sequined linens and submerged Calla Lily centerpieces set a tone of elegance and celebration, while unexpected details like personal two-tiered cakes continued to dazzle and delight.

Adapted for the wedding of Ashley and Peter DeVito

If we meet and I say, “Hi,”
That’s a salutation.
If you ask me how I feel,
That’s consideration.

If we stop and talk awhile,
That’s conversation.
And if we understand each other,
That’s communication.

If we argue, scream and fight,
That’s an altercation.

If we later apologize,
That’s reconciliation.

If we help each other home,
That’s cooperation.

And all these “ations” added up
Make civilization.

Now Peter and Ashley — their paths crossed
On an intoxicating river flotation.
And an instant bond was formed,
After his regurgitation.

Propelled by admiration
And a shared love of aviation.
Divided only by sports allegiance
And Top Secret classification.

And after four years of flirtation,
And co-habitation,
And a cross-country relocation…

…We’ve made it here today, to the celebration
of this perfect combination.

And if there’s one thing they don’t have today,
It’s any hesitation.
