A River Runs Through It

Every now and then, a girl needs to get away. And while the lights of Paris and the shores of Waikiki are always alluring, it’s nice to know that a little piece of heaven resides right here in the Rockies. The Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa boasts a Colorado chic vibe that can’t be beat. Named the number one resort in the continental US by the esteemed Conde Nast Traveler magazine, The Westin Riverfront is not lacking in luxury. Nestled at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain, this high-country gem has a little something for everyone — from the foodie, to the thrill seeker and everyone in between.

The Resort

The Westin Riverfront Resort and SpaLadies, this is not your mother’s mountain getaway. Appointed with ultra-mod (there’s not an antler to be seen) yet decidedly comfortable décor, The Westin Riverfront stakes claim to being Colorado’s first Silver LEED Certified hotel. And while the “green” is all in the details (think native plants, low-emitting paints and recycling stations galore) being eco-friendly does not mean that a single amenity has been overlooked. The resort’s tony lobby is as comfortable as it is chic and is adorned with glistening fireplaces, oversized furniture and sweeping views. Guest rooms are equally posh, featuring fireplaces, kitchenettes, and a fab five-piece bath complete with spa products and a dual-head shower. What we loved most, however, were the three spacious outdoor Jacuzzis situated on the banks of the impressive Eagle River. A heated saltwater lap pool adds to the opulence, as does towel service and pool attendants serving up drinks and delicacies.

The Spa

Spa AnjaliThe Westin’s 23,000 square foot Spa Anjali is worth the trip alone. Mountain-inspired treatments using local, all-natural ingredients won’t disappoint, nor will the luxe locker rooms or top-notch technicians. Try the spa’s signature massage, which harmoniously blends aromatherapy with traditional and Thai techniques, or opt for a Peak Hydration Facial to combat the Colorado elements. The spa’s boutique is worth a stop, too, with eco-chic clothing, gift items and even organic dog treats (did we mention the property is pet-friendly?).

The Restaurant

Restaurant AvondaleRestaurant Avondale may just be our new fave. The market-driven, west coast cuisine offers a farm-to-table experience that’s second to none. Relying primarily on local ranches and growers for its ingredients, the joint’s esteemed chefs dish up simple yet savory recipes ranging from pizzas to pastas and poultry to seafood. We indulged in a four-course dinner and fell head over heels for the Crispy Pork Belly appetizer. Our Ricotta Pasta main course was equally fantastic, and the crowning jewel, the restaurant’s famous Apple Crisp, was nothing short of divine. As fab as the food itself is the ambiance and swanky crowd. Every Friday, Avondale’s expansive patio plays host to live music and happy hour specials, drawing in locals and tourists alike. What’s more, the mountain and riverside views make dining and sipping just a bit more spectacular. Restaurant Avondale, Ring 970.790.5500, www.avondalerestaurant.com
